Meet Dr. John Vance DDS

Dr. Vance grew up in Baton Rouge and graduated from Baton Rouge High in 1989. After receiving a full scholarship, he attended LSU where he attained his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Dr. Vance attended the LSU School of Dentistry, his last two years on scholarship from the US Air Force and graduated in 2000. While at Commissioned Officer Training School, he earned the highest academic marks in his Air Force class of 200 students and was awarded the Hoyt S. Vandenberg Academic Achievement Award.

Dr. Vance is committed to advanced education and has completed over 1000 hours of additional education since graduating. He is a member of the Capital Study Club, which is a chapter of the Seattle Study Club. The Seattle Study Club is an international dental education organization, put together by some of the top cosmetic dentists in the world. Members of this organization are dedicated to the advancement of team treatment planning and total case management as the ultimate tool for achieving ideal comprehensive care. They have also committed themselves to excellence in their profession and in the management of their practices.

Dr. Vance is a provider of Six Month Smiles, a unique and quick solution for patients who want straight teeth using clear braces and tooth colored wire. In addition to comprehensive general dentistry, Dr. Vance provides treatment for patients with sleep apnea.

Dr. Vance is currently providing dental services to the LSU Athletic department and is the staff dentist at the LSU Student Health center in Baton Rouge. In addition, he holds a commission with the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s office. As a Deputy Coroner, he volunteers his Air Force training in dental forensics to complete dental forensic investigations for the parish.

During Dr Vance’s Air Force service he was assigned to Barksdale AFB, LA and Eielson AFB, Alaska. He completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency program and was sent to additional training in all fields of dentistry. In 2003 he presented continuing education on Localized Aggressive Periodontitis at the Hinman national dental meeting in Atlanta, GA. While in the Air Force he served as the officer in charge of continuing education, dental readiness, dental forensics, medical emergency training, dental radiology and oral surgery.

Dr. Vance is a member of The American Dental Association, the Louisiana Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, the Academy for Sports Dentistry and the American Society of Forensic Odontology.

Dr. Vance is a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM), the leading national organization representing dentists who treat sleep-related breathing disorders, including obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and snoring.
